Abstract

The apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia elaborates on the idea of conjugal love as the soul of marriage and family, trying to recognize and integrate at the same time the “complex” situations, which can still grow towards the ideal. The former and the latter are dealt with through a dynamic and gradual approach, in which love is seen as a progression, a path that must be discerned by the faithful accompanied by their pastors, without excluding the aid of sacraments, and therefore, opening the possibility of sacramental communion for divorced and remarried. This paper poses the question of the soundness of the rational for this allowance, and expresses concern about the risk that the chosen procedure might introduce a gap between doctrine and pastoral, truth and mercy.
